EDMONTON -
Matt Berlin turned aside 27 of the 28 shots he faced, to go along with a pair of goals from third-year winger Tyler Preziuso, in a 5-1 Golden Bears win over the Trinity Western Spartans.Â
Jacob Kendall,
Alex Thacker, and
Justin Hall also scored for Alberta, who improved to 14-4-2 in conference play thanks to their fifth-straight win on Saturday. The weekend sweep over Trinity Western sees Alberta maintain their hold on third in Canada West with 30 points in 20 games.Â
Aidan de la Gorgendiere also impressed in his Bears debut, recording an assist and five shots in his first game since joining Alberta out of the ECHL (Atlanta).Â
Daine Dubois scored the lone Spartans goal in the third period, while Raphael Audet turned in a stellar performance, keeping the Spartans in the game with 41 saves. The loss drops TWU to 2-15-1 this season, as they occupy eighth in Canada West.Â
Audet was the story of the first two periods, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the first frame, and 16 of the 18 he faced in the second. Alberta continued to pepper the TWU goalie, with their 26th shot of the game finally beating Audet.Â
Kendall and Preziuso each scored in the final three minutes of the second to give the homeside a 2-0 lead through 40.Â
Dubois cut into the Bears lead early in the third, beating Berlin on the powerplay, as his third of the season made it 2-1.Â
That would be as close as TWU would come, with Preziuso restoring the Bears two-goal lead just four minutes later.Â
Alberta will take on the first-place Calgary Dinos next weekend in a home-and-home series, hosting the Dinos on Saturday night.Â
