EDMONTON -
Madison Willan's tally midway through the first period stood as the game-winner, as the Pandas bounced back with a 2-0 win over the Saskatchewan Huskies on Saturday afternoon.
Willan scored her sixth of the season in the first, before assisting on
Hayleigh Craig's powerplay marker in the second, as Alberta rebounded following Friday night's 2-1 shootout loss to the Huskies.
Misty Rey stopped all 19 shots she faced, earning her second shutout of the season. Rey now owns a 5-0-0 record this season, allowing just three goals against in 303 minutes of action.Â
Win the win, Alberta (19-2-3) moves five points ahead of Saskatchewan (17-5-2) for second place in Canada West. The Pandas, who have won 11 of their last 12 games, sit just two points back of UBC for top spot in the conference.Â
Huskies goalie Camryn Drever allowed two goals on 30 shots, turning in another stellar performance in the UofS crease. Saskatchewan was outshot 32-19 on Saturday, a stark contrast to the highly competitive and even game the night prior.Â
Not only did Alberta heavily outshoot and out-chance the Huskies, they also drew six minor penalties, finishing 1/6 on the powerplay.Â
Alberta will head to Vancouver next weekend for a matchup of the top two teams in CW, while the Huskies will host the 18-6-0 Mount Royal Cougars.Â
