A trio of Bears heard their names called on Tuesday night, as
Jake Taylor (LB),
Kwadwo Boahen (DL) and
Jonathan Rosery (REC) were selected in the 2023 Canadian Football League Draft.Â
Taylor was the first Bear off the board, going 18th overall to the Edmonton Elks at the tail end of the second round. Boahen, who spent four years with the York Lions before transferring to the University of Alberta, went four picks later to the Calgary Stampeders at 22nd overall. Rosery rounded out the Alberta talent in the CFL Draft, going 62nd overall to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.Â
Since taking over as head coach of the Bears prior to the 2013 season,
Chris Morris has seen 16 Bears drafted, including seven over the past two drafts alone. Seven players selected over two drafts is the second most in Bears history, trailing only the 10 players selected in 1985 (7) and 1986 (3).Â
Taylor, who spent time at both halfback and linebacker with the Bears, was 18th in the CFL Scouting Bureau rankings entering the draft. All three of Taylor, Boahen and Rosery participated in the CFL National Combine in late March.Â
