EDMONTON - Storming back from a 3-1 deficit late in the third, the visiting Mount Royal Cougars stunned the Alberta Golden Bears with a 4-3 OT win on Friday night at Clare Drake Arena.Â
The host Bears led by two late in the second, before MRU tied the game thanks to late markers in each the second and third periods. Clayton Hanus beat Alberta goalie
Matt Berlin 1:28 into overtime to cap off the come-from-behind win.Â
The loss drops Alberta to 0-3-0, while MRU improves to 3-0-0. It marks the first time since the 1929/30 season the Bears have started conference play with three-straight losses. The Bears started 1929/30 0-4-0 on the season, with teams only playing two games against each other and the conference, at that time, was composed of just Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.
The win is the second-straight for MRU this season, including a pre-season contest, and fourth win in their last five meetings for the Cougars.Â
Spencer Moe, Tristan Zandee, and Kyle Walker also scored for MRU, with Shane Farkas stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced in the win.Â
Tyler Preziuso,
Justin Hall, and
Adam Hall scored for the Bears, with
Matt Berlin stopping 26 shots in his first start of the season.Â
The two rivals will meet again tomorrow night in Calgary.Â
