Sixth Annual Bateman Cup Ends in Draw

Bears start season with three-straight 1-1 draws

SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan Huskies and Alberta Golden Bears shared the points in a back-and-forth Bateman Cup on Friday. The hard-fought battle ended in a draw for the second year in a row.

It's the third-straight 1-1 draw for the Golden Bears to start the season, with all three having seen the Bears fall behind 1-0, before leveling the match in the second half. Luke Mackie was able to put the Huskies on the board in the 48th minute. Less than 10 minutes later, Riliand Idrizi responded with a quick goal for the Golden Bears.

First year goal-keeper Jaron Slopinski held the net with three saves while Liam Collens saved five of the six shots he faced on the other side of the pitch.

Alberta had an excellent chance to score a late lead on the Huskies, but Garry Onyejelem's redirection from in tight hit the crossbar.

The Golden Bears will now head to Lethbridge to take on the Pronghorns on Sunday afternoon.
