Draper guides Canada to U18 Women's Gold

Canada defeats USA 3-2 to capture 6th U18 Gold

MADISON, WISCONSIN - For the second time in his storied coaching career, Howie Draper has guided Canada to a gold medal at the IIHF U18 Women's World Championship. Canada defeated the Americans 3-2 on Monday night at LaBahn Arena in Madison. 

It marks the second U18 gold for Draper has head coach of Team Canada, after winning in 2019, followed by a silver medal in 2020. Monday marked Canada's first title since 2019 and sixth of all time. The U.S. edged Canada 2-1 in the 2020 gold medal game – the last time this tournament was played prior to COVID-19. 

Draper now adds a second U18 Gold to go along with his record eight U SPORTS National titles and 14 Canada West titles as head coach of the Pandas Hockey program. 

Canada went 2-2 in the preliminary round, defeating Sweden 3-1 and Slovakia 7-0, while dropping a 2-0 decision to Finland, and a 7-0 blanking at the hands of the Americans. The Red & White bounced back with a 2-1 win over the Fins in the semifinal, followed by the 3-2 win over the U.S. in the Gold Medal Game.

The 2022/23 Pandas Hockey schedule will be released on June 22nd, as the Pandas search for a third CW title in three seasons, and first national title since 2017.
