CALGARY - Continuing their dominance of Canadian University Tennis in 2021/22, the Golden Bears and Pandas each captured the 2022 Prairie Regional Championship, this past weekend at the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre.
Both Alberta tennis squads knocked off Saskatchewan and Calgary, advancing to the Western Championship, hosted by the UBC Thunderbirds on March 5th.Â

The Pandas, who captured their
second-straight National title in October, had little issues with Sask or Calgary, earning a pair of 7-0 wins.Â
The two wins also extends the Pandas team win streak to 18, with the Pandas last loss coming in the 2018 national final. The Pandas have gone 108-18 in singles and doubles matches over the past three years, winning the 2019 and 2021 national titles.Â
The Bears, who also earned a national title in October, had more resistance in their wins in Calgary this weekend. The Bears cruised past Saskatchewan 7-0, before narrowly edging the Dinos 4-3.Â
The win over Calgary avenges the Bears loss to the Dinos in a dual match in late November, a 5-2 Calgary win.Â
Both the Bears & Pandas will set their sights on the UBC Thunderbirds, who they will take on in the 2022 Western Regional Championship, with a berth at the 2022 Tennis Canada University Tennis Championship at stake.Â
