18 Bears record a point in rout of MacEwan

Alberta ends first half with 11-2 win over Griffins

EDMONTON - All but one Bear found their name on the scoresheet on Saturday night, as the U SPORTS #4 ranked Golden Bears routed the MacEwan Griffins 11-2.

Every Bears skater finished with at least one shot, as Alberta finished with a 57-23 shot edge. Eight Bears also finished with multiple points, led by a four-point performance from Tyler Preziuso.

Ethan Kruger stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced, as Alberta heads into the winter break with a 13-4-1 record following their sweep over the Griffins. The loss drops MacEwan to 6-10-0, as they continue to hold on to the 7th seed.

Matt Fonteyne, Joel Sexsmith, Ethan Sakowich, Adam Hall, Dylan Plouffe, Justin Hall, and Josh Paterson scored for Alberta, with both Preziuso and Nolan Volcan scoring a pair. Ethan Strang scored both MacEwan goals, giving him four on the season. Alberta led 4-1 through one, before adding just a single goal in the second. However the flood gates opened in the third, with Alberta scoring six.

Thomas Davis was pulled in the third after allowing eight goals on 43 shots, before Ashton Abel made 11 saves on 14 shots in relief.

Saturday night's game also concluded the season series between the cross-town foes, with Alberta winning three of their four meetings.

Alberta went 3/8 on the powerplay on Saturday, in what turned into a scrappy and physical affair. The teams combined for 67 penalty minutes, 49 of which by the Griffins. By comparison, Friday night's 4-1 Alberta win featured only 12 penalty minutes coming from six minors.

The Canada West conference will resume play on January 6th and 7th, 2023. Alberta will also host the Ukrainian U25 national team on January 3rd at Clare Drake Arena.
