Madison Willan named to Canadian FISU roster

2023 Winter Universiade runs January 12-22 in Lake Placid

Third-year Pandas forward Madison Willan is one of 22 players named to the Canadian FISU Women's Hockey team, set to participate in Lake Placid in January.

Willan is one of four Canada West student-athletes making up the roster for the Winter Universiade in New York, and is the first Panda to play for Canada since Alex Poznikoff in 2017 (Almaty, Kazakhstan).

Willan, the 2020 U SPORTS Rookie of the Year, currently sits sixth in Canada West scoring with 17 points in 18 conference games, and 63 points in 66 career conference games. The Edmonton product is also a member of the Pandas golf program, and the Canadian National Women's Baseball team.

Led by head coach Greg Bowles, the 2023 Canadian FISU roster is comprised of four student-athletes from the Canada West conference, five from Ontario University Athletics, eight from the RSEQ conference, and five from the Atlantic University Sport conference. The coaches and support staff were announced earlier this fall.

The 31st edition of the multi-sport event is set for January 11-22, while the women's hockey competition will run January 11-21. The preliminary round will be played in Potsdam, NY, while the medal round will occur at Lake Placid's Olympic Center 1980 Rink.

Team Canada opens its schedule on Wednesday, January 11th against Slovakia at 8 PM ET.
