EDMONTON - In the total opposite to Friday's tame 4-1 Golden Bears win, Saturday's tilt was chaulked full of animosity between two teams with very little history.Â
Combining for 29 pealties and 64 penalty minutes, Alberta went 3/9 on the powerplay en route to a 7-1 win over the Trinity Western Spartans.
Tyler Preziuso and
Adam Hall scored twice each for the Bears, with Ethan Sakowich, Dylan Plouffe, and
Jakin Smallwood also finding the scoresheet.
Ethan Kruger stopped 18 of the 19 shots he faced in his first career Canada West start.Â
Spartans goalie Isaac LeBelle couldn't replicate his strong performance on Friday night, giving up four goals on 21 shots, before being pulled midway through the second. Jesse Pomeroy scored the lone TWU goal late in the third.Â
The Bears dominated right from the opening puck drop, outshooting TWU 17-5 in the first, with Plouffe and Hall giving the homeside a 2-0 lead through 20.Â
The feistiness ramped up in the second, as the teams combined for 14 penalties. Preziuso and Smallwood both scored on the powerplay in the second, with Hall and Sakowich scoring at even strength.Â
Pomeroy scored for TWU five minutes into the third, before Preziuso matched with his second of the night five minutes later.Â
The 5-0-1 Bears will visit the 5-1-0 Saskatchewan Huskies next weekend in Saskatoon, while the winless Spartans will host the 2-2-0 Manitoba Bisons.Â
