EDMONTON - Putting up six goals for the second straight night, the Golden Bears opened their 109th season with a sweep over Mount Royal, capped off with a 6-2 home win on Saturday night.Â
The win comes on the heels of the Bears 6-1 road win the previous night.
Josh Prokop scored twice to pace Alberta on Saturday, adding to the goal and an assist from Friday night.

Nolan Volcan, and Josh Paterson also scored in consecutive nights thanks to markers on Saturday, with Erik Florchuk also finding the scoresheet.Â
Nick Schneider stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced, picking up his second win of the young season.Â
Josh Tarzwell and Andrew Fyten scored for Mount Royal, while Jackson Berry gave up four goals on 31 Alberta shots, with two coming via empty net markers.Â

Neither team scored in the first, with the visitors holding a 13-8 shot advantage.Â
The teams exchanged blows early in the second, with four goals coming in the first 10 minutes, three of which came from the sticks of Golden Bears. Leading 3-1 after 40, Prokop scored his second of the game just 31 seconds into the third, growing Alberta's lead to three.Â

Fyten cut the lead down tow two midway through the second, beating Schneider on the powerplay.Â
That was as close as MRU came, however, with Alberta icing the win with two shorthanded empty net goals.Â
Alberta has another home-and-home series on tap next weekend, as they take on the MacEwan Griffins. Mount Royal will visit the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley, BC.Â
