2021 Canada West Football Schedule released

Bears to host three games at Foote Field this fall

EDMONTON – The Golden Bears football team will host their first game at Foote Field in 707 days on September 25th, as Canada West announced the 2021 football schedule.
 
The Bears last game was their 2019 Hardy Cup Semifinal loss at Saskatchewan on November 2nd, with their last game at Foote Field taking place on October 19th.
 
Alberta will host three games at Foote Field in 2021, welcoming UBC (Sept. 25), Manitoba (Oct. 1), and Regina (Oct. 30) to South Campus at the University of Alberta. The four-time Hardy Cup Champions will also visit Saskatchewan, Calgary, and UBC this fall.
 
The Golden Bears finished with a 4-4 record in 2019, qualifying for the post-season for the second time in three seasons.
 
The start of the Canada West season was pushed back to late September to accommodate a hopeful safe return to amidst ongoing impacts from COVID-19. The season will feature six conference games for every Canada West program, as opposed to the usual eight.
 
The Canada West playoffs and U SPORTS Bowl Games are delayed one week from their usual time slot.
 
All games will be streamed live on Canada West TV, with passes available for purchase in August.  
 
SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Golden Bears will host three games at Foote Field, including the first two games of the season.
  • All teams will play a six-game conference schedule in 2021, before returning to an eight-game schedule in 2022.
  • The Golden Bears will also play the Regina Rams in a non-conference game on September 12th at the Mathanex Bowl in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
  • Laval will host the 56th Vanier Cup in Quebec City on December 4th, which was announced by U SPORTS on June 17.
