EDMONTON - Eight Golden Bears have been named to the U SPORTS All-Star team, which is set to compete in a pair of games against the Canadian World Jr roster December 11th and 12th in Calgary.
Additionally, Bears head coach
Ian Herbers will serve as an assistant coach for the U SPORTS squad. U SPORTS has selected players exclusively from Alberta schools to represent the All-Star team in order to minimize COVID risks throughout the selection tournament.
Defenceman
Clayton Kirichenko and forward
Grayson Pawlenchuk are two of the three players who have suited up for the all-star squad previously, representing the Bears in 2019. Ryley Lindgren of the MRU Cougars is set to make a second appearance as a U SPORTS All-Star. Pawlenchuk will serve as the U SPORTS captain, while Kirichenko and Lindgren will don the alternate captain title.
Dylan Plouffe (D),
Josh Prokop (F),
Tyler Preziuso (F),
Eric Florchuk (F),
Matt Fonteyne (F), and
Nolan Volcan (F) are the other Golden Bears to earn a spot on the roster, making their debut against the Canadian Jr squad.Â
Hockey Canada's National Junior Team has faced various U SPORTS competition on a regular basis since 1988. Since a U SPORTS national all-star team began participating in December 2015, U SPORTS holds a 6-4-1 record.
