Game Recap: Golden Bears Soccer | | Connor Hood

Bears and Dinos battle to scoreless draw

Bears remain in second with 3-1-4 record

EDMONTON - Dealing with an abundance of injuries to their starting 11, the Golden Bears were able to muster a gusty 0-0 draw with the Calgary Dinos, Sunday afternoon at Foote Field.

With seven of their usual starters out of action, the Bears were forced to dress almost an entire new lineup against the first place Dinos. The draw, which comes in a game in which the Bears out-shot Calgary 9-6, is a much-needed point for Alberta, who now sit in third in the Central division of Canada West with a 3-1-4 record.

The draw sees the Dinos move to 4-0-4, now in second place in the Central Division, trailing the Mount Royal Cougars by two points with a game in hand.

2019 First Team All-Canadian Jake Ruschkowski played a pivotal role in keeping the game scoreless – especially in the first half with several key saves. The Calgary goalkeeper finished the game with four stops as he recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season.

The Golden Bears attack outshot the Dinos 9-6 and generated five corners, compared to just two by Calgary. Alberta goalkeeper Liam Collens was forced to make just one save on the day, also earning his fourth clean sheet of 2021.

The Golden Bears will conclude their regular season with a home-and-home next weekend with the Saskatchewan Huskies, with Alberta hosting Game 1 at 2:00 p.m, on Friday afternoon.
