Located on North Campus, Clare Drake Arena is home to Golden Bears and Pandas Hockey, as well as numerous Campus & Community Recreation programming. The venue is named after former University of Alberta Golden Bears hockey coach, Clare Drake, who led the Golden Bears to 697 career wins
In 1990, the Varsity Ice Arena was re-named in honor of Clare Drake, who was most successful coach in Canadian Inter-university Sport in men's hockey; former ice hockey player and coach (Edmonton Oilers (WHA), Alberta Golden Bears). In his 28 years as the Head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears ice hockey team, he coached the Bears to 6 University Cup Championships and 17 Canada West Conference Championships.
